The Republican Library for the Visually Impaired was established on June 1, 1981 at the initiative of the Azerbaijan Society of the Blind as a "Central Republican Library for the Blind" under the auspices of this society.

The task of the library is to provide library and information services to visually impaired people of I and II groups.
