Republican special boarding school No. 5 for children with disabilities of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in 1936 by the Azerbaijan Society of the Visually Impaired with 8 students in the basement of a house on Sovetsky Street in Baku. The school later operated in Buzovna settlement, and then in the present building from 1961 to the present. The school, which operates under different names in different years, was overhauled and equipped with modern equipment in 2005-2006 on the initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. The school has a computer for the blind, a reading machine, and a mini-printing press for Braille books.

Graduates of the school's general education program have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and continue their education in various universities and colleges of the country. Thus, they visited Baku State University, Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Azerbaijan State Technical University, Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​and Music Gymnasium, tourism, computer technology, banking, finance and credit, etc. They are admitted to various colleges, including the Faculty of Sports and Therapeutic Massage of the Medical College.

Pupils competed in "Handball", "Judo", "Skiing" in the Republic, as well as in the International Paralympics in Tokyo, "Swimming" and others. They won gold and silver medals, diplomas and prizes. There is an art reading, drawing and drama circle for the integration of students in the society. At the same time, school events, holidays and special days are celebrated by teachers and students.

There are also students who spend the night at school. Students study here for 12 years. They are provided with clothes, school supplies, meals 4 times a day, and medical examinations throughout the year. The state also pays 50 manat per student per month.

To entertain and delight children, various museums, festivities, concerts, theater performances, exhibitions are often organized.
